On Tuesday 12 December, Linda Drijvers received the Christine Mohrmann Stipend 2017. This stipend is awarded by the Radboud University to promising female PhD candidates to pursue a career in academia after completing their PhD theses.

The grant amounts to 5000 euros and will allow Drijvers, PhD candidate at the Center for Language Studies, the Donders Institute and the MPI, to spend time at the University of Birmingham and the University of Oxford to learn magnetoencephalography (MEG) analysis methods.

Drijvers is investigating how iconic gestures support speech comprehension in noisy surroundings and the cognitive and neural mechanisms behind this. Examples include a hand making a ‘mixing’ gesture while describing a recipe, or a ‘driving’ gesture when talking about a car.’
