Highlights from the Medal Summer School: MLD Contributions

Last week the MEDAL (Methodological Excellence in Data-Driven Approaches to Linguistics) Summer School on Experimental Linguistics came to Nijmegen, which meant a full week of plenary talks, workshops, poster sessions, lab tours and much more. Many compliments to the organisers!
Our researchers' contributions were impactful, showcasing the latest advancements in language sciences, with a significant share from the MLD team.
Workshop Highlights
- Introduction to Multimodal Data Collection by Sho Akamine and Ezgi Mamus (MLD research staff).
- Multimodal language in social interaction - Judith Holler (MLD senior investigator) & Marlijn ter Bekke
- Eye Tracking and VR in the Lab and Field by Gabriela Garrido (LADD) and Eleanor Huizeling (MLD research staff).
- VR as an Experimental Method for the Language Sciences by David Peeters (MLD affiliated researcher).
- Referential efficiency as speaker-listener coordination by Paula Rubio-Fernández(MLD senior investigator).
Poster Presentations
- Negation in Turkish Sign Language by Hasan Dikyuva(MLD PhD student).
- The Role of Gesture in Narrative Recall in Individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment and Healthy Older Adults by Martina Mellana(MLD Trainee).
Lab tours
- Motion capture lab by Sachit Mishra(MLD Motion Capture Specialist) and Lanmiao liu(MLD PhD student).
Final Plenary Session
- The event concluded with a plenary on GoLD MEDAL research by Professor Aslı Özyürek the director of the Multimodal Language Department at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics.
