I am a dancer, teacher and participatory dance practitioner, employed as research assistant, whilst completing my PhD, through which I aim to unpack the role of dance-informed embodied practices on sense-making. I am exploring both how humans make-sense of dance and how dance can be used to make-sense of ourselves and our world. My supervisors are Prof. Alan Cienki (Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, where my PhD programme is registered), and Prof. Asli Ozyurek, here at the MPI. My research integrates a wide range of interconnected disciplines including dance, cognitive psychology, multimodal linguistics, education theory & embodied cognition. Ultimately, I am interested in shedding light on the role of embodiment in cognition.
I am also . I was a founder member of CandoCo Dance Company in the UK and have taught dance theory & practice for over twenty-five years. I am currently co-director of the participatory programme for Reframing HERstory Art Foundation and teach with the WijZijn Dance collective.
